About Aarhus

In eastern Jutland situated in beautiful surroundings close to forests and sandy beaches you will find Aarhus. With a population of about 300.000, it is the second largest city in Denmark. A big portion of the inhabitants are students making Aarhus the youngest city in Denmark when you consider the average age.

Although being young in population, Aarhus is one of the oldest cities in Denmark as well as the rest of Scandinavia having been founded by the Vikings in the 8th century. The roots and history of Aarhus go far back thus adding a special atmosphere to the city.

Cultural hub 
Besides several successful dancing events, Aarhus has many interesting activities to offer. Important attractions include ARoS (Aarhus Museum of Art), the Old Town, which is an open air museum, and Moesgaard Museum, which is an archaeological collection in beautiful surroundings. But you will find that Aarhus has much more to offer than the past.

As a dynamic city of growth and youth, the city offers many different activities throughout the year. Each summer one of the biggest cultural festivals take place in the city centre – it is called Aarhus Festuge and fills the city with an intense cultural buzz and plenty of cultural activities - concerts, theatre and many others - that are planned according to a new theme each year.Aarhus also has a well-developed day and night life with plenty of cafés, discotheques, movie theatres, and concert halls, adding to this a wide variety of sport facilities and clubs.

A growing business centre 
At present, Aarhus is expanding dramatically. The inner section of the Aarhus Harbour is being transformed into a new urban area with houses and businesses, but Aarhus has also experienced an important growth in jobs – this is considered a result of an innovative business life, a highly educated workforce, and research oriented educational institutions as well as investor friendly policies.

Getting around in Aarhus 
By Bike
Danes are very fond of bicycles. Even during winter, you will see many Danes using bicycles as a means of transportation. The local bus network is quite developed as well, and the yellow city buses will take you all over the city. If you bring your own car, you'll discover that it can be quite difficult to find a parking lot downtown and at ASB too.

By bus
The city bus network of Aarhus is extensive. The yellow city buses will take you all over the city - from 05.00 to 24.00. Night buses run on Fridays and Saturdays. Bus number 18 will take you from NRGi Arena to the centre of Aarhus. Busses leave every 10-20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night until midnight.

By taxi
In Denmark in general, and therefore also in Aarhus, taxis are quite expensive. However, they are safe, reliable and comfortable. There are three different taxi companies operating in Aarhus:
